1,755 WhatsApp Conversations for a Qatar Wellness Centre, and Why the Cheaper Objective Won

A wellness centre in Qatar takes most of its bookings over WhatsApp. Customers message, ask about services and times, and book in the chat. So the goal for its Meta ads was simple: start as many WhatsApp conversations with potential customers as possible, for as little as possible.

Total spend
QAR 2,000
about $550

What we ran

  • Eleven click-to-WhatsApp campaigns on Facebook and Instagram, so a tap on the ad opened a chat with the centre
  • Seven campaigns on the Sales objective and four on the Engagement objective, run side by side with the same goal
  • Budget judged on one number, cost per conversation started, with weaker campaigns switched off

The finding: Engagement beat Sales on cost

Meta's Sales objective sounds like the obvious choice when you want customers. Here it was the expensive one. The Engagement campaigns started conversations for about QAR 0.66 each, against about QAR 1.49 on Sales: 56% cheaper for the same action.

Cost per WhatsApp conversation, by campaign objective
Sales objective · 7 campaigns · 1,021 conversationsQAR 1.49 (about $0.41)
Engagement objective · 4 campaigns · 734 conversationsQAR 0.66 (about $0.18)

A likely reason: the Sales objective optimises for actions further down the funnel and bids for people Meta predicts will buy, which costs more per impression. For a business where the conversation itself is the sale, paying that premium to start a chat bought little extra.

What these numbers do and don't show

  • Conversations are Meta's own count of chats started, not bookings. We didn't have booking data, so we don't claim any.
  • A cheaper conversation is only better if it books as often. Before moving a whole budget to Engagement, compare booking rates by objective, for example by tagging chats in WhatsApp Business.
  • Spend was in Pakistani rupees (PKR 154,440) and is shown here in Qatari riyals and US dollars at the approximate 2026 average rate.

If your customers book by message, the campaign objective is one of the cheapest things to test. Run the two objectives side by side for a couple of weeks and let cost per conversation, and then bookings, decide.
